From Latin vīgintī (“twenty”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁wih₁ḱm̥ti, from *dwi(h₁)dḱm̥ti(h₁) (“two tens, two decades”), *dwi(h₁)dḱm̥ti. Compare Italian venti.
