From Ottoman Turkish اكمك (ekmek), from Old Anatolian Turkish اتمك (etmek), from Proto-Common Turkic *etmek. The medial consonant -t- is irregularly changed to -k- to avoid homophony with the verb etmek (“to do”) as expected.
