Jessnes
Pronunciation: /ˈjɛsˌneːs/
“Jessnes” is a Norwegian Bokmål word. Its meaning in English:
proper noun
- A collective farm name in Furnes, traditionally divided into Jessnes øvre, Jessnes nedre and Jessnes søndre.
Etymology
The first element is unknown; the final element continues Old Norse nes (“headland, promontory”). Oluf Rygh tentatively connected the first element with the old district name Jessum in Ullensaker, represented by Old Norse Jaseimr and Jesseimr, but noted that other possible explanations were incompatible with the early form. First attested in 1346 as Jæsnes.
