polis

“polis” is a Latvian word. Its 2 meanings in English:

noun

  1. a Pole, a Polish man, a man born in Poland
  2. Polish; pertaining to Poland and its people

Etymology

Ultimately from Polish polak, Russian поля́к (polják) (under the influence of Old High German pōl — cf.
