Etymology
From late Old Norse krús, maybe from Middle Low German krūs, krōs, of uncertain ultimate origin, but Pokorny proposes an ultimate derivation from Proto-Indo-European *ger- (“to turn, bend”), similar to Proto-Germanic *krōkaz (“something bent, crooked”), *krukjō (“staff”).
